It Will Still be In 2019

The devastating fire that claimed the vast majority of the equipment and materials for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup forced officials to announce that the race will be moved to a later date. According to Superbike News, MotoE will still race in 2019 but a revised calendar will need to be created for the sport. The championships will not be at Circuito de Jerez as part of the Gran Premio Red Bull de España as was officially planned.

The race could still happen in Spain, and it could still happen at the same racetrack, but it will be on a different date than the one originally selected. As for the fire and the damage it caused, there’s a lot of rebuilding to do for everyone involved in the sport. Not only were the bikes housed in the paddock burned, so was the vast majority of other equipment, tools, and materials.

The investigation into the fire is still underway. One thing is clear from the investigation so far, though. None of the bikes were charging when the fire broke out, which excludes a fire occurring due to a malfunction during the charging process. It would see that some other cause started the blaze.

The rest of the investigation should reveal what started the fire. This information will help the FIM and the teams involved in MotoE to not have a repeat situation in the future. I’m glad to see the race will go on. It’s a shame that it has to move dates, but it’s understandable why that must be.
