Could Triumph Be Working On an Electric Trident?

The Resurgence of an Icon as an Electric

The Triumph Trident was a high-performance model that helped define the company during the late ’60s and early ’70s. The bike is well-loved by those that remember it. Now it seems there could be a new Trident on its way. According to MoreBikes, there’s a rumor going around of Triumph working on a new Trident, and it’s powered by electricity. This could be awesome.

Granted, the rumor from MoreBikes is that there’s a patent for the design floating around out there. The publication stated it has yet to hunt down the patent. I also failed to locate this patent, so there’s the possibility that this is all bunk. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if it were true. More major names will get into making electric bikes in the future, and it would be smart to bring back familiar names with the modern tech. It would give people some familiarity with an otherwise alien concept.

High-Performance Electric Bikes?

If the rumors prove true, the Trident would likely be a high-performance variant to connect with the old bike. One that Triumph would likely sell for a high price. That’s unfortunate, but the good news is that it would likely be one of the fastest motorcycles around, which would be awesome.

MoreBikes actually suggests that the Trident name would be an electric spin-off brand rather than a specific model. That’s honestly not a bad idea. It would allow Triumph to make several different electric bikes under the Trident name. It could be smart to segment like that.

However, I wonder how that would shake out long term. It brings up a lot of questions. Would Triumph have any electric bikes or would they all fall under the Trident name? How many bikes will fit in there? Will Trident be a sub-brand of Triumph or stand alone?

As I said, it could be total crap, but it’s interesting to think about. There’s room for Triumph to have electric bikes in its lineup. If the company wants to call all its electric bikes Tridents that’s fine, but it could complicate things down the line. I’m interested to see how this develops.

Listen to the Triumph Daytona 765 Sing

A Desperate and Angry Howl

The new Triumph Daytona 765 is coming. The bike has been spotted before, and now we come across a video of the machine on a dyno testing. The lucky guy who gets to do the testing looks all to calm as the beast below him screams on the dyno. It’s a beautiful howl that I don’t think I could ever get sick of.

It’s almost painful to watch this bike tested like this. It looks out of place. It should be on a racetrack or on a twisty canyon road pushing the limits. I guess any motorcycle looks unnatural on a dyno, but this one especially. Maybe it’s because I’m extremely excited for the new Triumph Daytona 765, but I’d almost rather not see the video from the guys at Mmecabike31 testing the bike. Just give us the audio, and spare us the almost unsightly visuals.

I’m probably in the minority here. Most folks would want to get as much of the Triumph Daytona 765 to see as they can. I like looking at it, but stripped down like this and strapped to a dyno isn’t exactly a good look. Let that pony run. From the sound of it, the bike is going to be a real killer.

The details of the new Triumph Daytona are still scarce. However, we know the bike will get a new larger displacement version of inline-three cylinder engine. How the bike will look is still somewhat of a mystery. There are some spy shots out there, RideApart seems to suggest that Triumph put the fairing from the previous model on the test bike to hide its true styling. All I know is that the bike is coming, and it should be better than before.

Triumph Daytona With 765 Engine Spied

The Return of the Daytona

The 765 engine first appeared on Triumph’s Street Triple, and now it looks like a new Daytona will get that engine as well. The motorcycle spies over at Motorcycle News spotted the new bike riding around. The images of the return of the Daytona with that new engine were shot in Spain. With them comes some concrete detail and plenty of speculation.

There are a few things that can be gleaned from the images. As Motorcycle News points out, there is a lot of this new bike that looks very familiar. Some things like the swingarm and frame look pretty much the same. It’s also clear that the engine is new, and most likely the 765 engine from the Street Triple. Triumph may have to tweak the engine to get more out of it.

You can see hints of what looks like Öhlins fork and shocks and some obvious Brembo brakes. Motorcycle News suggest the rear shock is the same as the one used on the previous bike. The company’s TFT full-color display will likely make an appearance, adding some tech features and rider modes, such as Road, Sport, and Track to the rider’s list of options.

Triumph has been pretty hush, hush about this model. While it obviously exists due to the photos, who knows when the company will actually let the bike debut or how much money it will cost when it finally does. My guess would be Spring of 2020 for a production model, but if Triumph got a bur in its butt, it might kick this bike out into the world at the end of 2019.

There’s also a chance for a Triumph Factory Custom (TFC) version of the new Daytona. Although Triumph has made no indication, there’s no reason to suggest it wouldn’t make one. The company plans to churn out TFC versions of other models and the new Daytona would make a good addition. We’ll keep an eye and an ear out for more info on this model, should be a cool bike.

Triumph Unveils Its Thruxton TFC and Shows off More Rocket TFC Details

Triumph Thrills US With TFC Models

We reported yesterday on the Rocket TFC teaser Triumph released, well now we’re here to show you a whole lot more.

The motorcycle company showed off the Thruxton TFC in all its glory and released more images of the Rocket TFC and a few more details. These are the first two models of what is to become a full line of super limited-edition premium Triumph Factory Custom motorcycles.

The bikes will be individually numbered and uniquely customized as well as receive modest performance enhancements.

The Thruxton TFC

Triumph Thruxton TFC

Triumph’s Thruxton TFC we reported on before, but now you can really take in all the bike’s details. The company will build only 750 models. Of that 750, 200 will come to the U.S. and 20 will go to Canada.

The bike receives a 10 hp bump in power for the 1,200cc engine. It’s about 11 pounds lighter, too. The retuned engine can make 85 lb-ft of torque at 4,850 rpm.

Additional upgrades to the model include fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes with adjustable brake levers, Metzeler Racetec RR tires, Vance & Hines titanium silencers with carbon fiber end caps, carbon fiber bodywork, billet-machined top yoke with a special TFC plaque.

The bike also comes with authentication papers, a personalized booklet, and other personalized items included in what Triumph is calling a “handover pack.”

The bike will start at $21,500 in the U.S. and should be available in June of this year. With the limited number of bikes being made you’d better act fast if you want one.

The Rocket TFC Concept

Triumph didn’t share too many new details of the upcoming Rocket TFC Concept. I mean, it just teased the thing yesterday, so it’s no surprise the company didn’t share more with the public.

With that said, you can see a lot from the pictures of the bike that Triumph now shares. Personally, I’m blown away by the details put into the TFC models. Triumph obviously really tried to make these special machines. The Rocket, to me, looks even more impressive than the Thruxton TFC.

Triumph did say it would build only 750 of the Rocket TFC when it does come out. The split on how many of them will actually come to the U.S. and Canadian markets will likely be similar to the Thruxton TFC.

The company keeps calling it the Rocket TFC Concept. However, the plaques and badges on the bike in the photos say Rocket III TFC, so I assume the Concept moniker will only stick around until May 1st when the company officially reveals the bike.

Until that time, we have these pictures to look over. The details in these photos could keep you busy for quite some time.

Triumph Teased the Concept Rocket TFC

That’s Triumph Factory Custom

Folks seem pretty pumped about the upcoming Triumph Rocket III, and now they have something else to get all fired up about. The Triumph Concept Rocket TFC (Triumph Factory Custom).

According to Motorcycle.com, Triumph sent out the image above and a short message. The message said the following about the Concept Rocket TFC:

  • The concept for the next TFC model is an all-new Rocket TFC, the ultimate motorcycle
  • The world’s largest production motorcycle engine transformed
  • Full details and launch to follow on May 1, 2019

That’s not a ton of information, but it the promise of a full launch and all the wonderful details about this bike gets me really excited.

In case you don’t know about the Triumph Factory Custom line that Triumph is doing, I’ll explain. It’s a premium run of special edition motorcycles. The company adds special equipment to the bikes and some performance enhancements.

A new regular version of the Rocket III should come sometime this year. When it does it’ll come packing somewhere around 2500cc in three cylinders and a ton of power. It could have more than 180 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, according to Motorcycle News.

I’ll keep an eye out for any more news on this model. It looks fantastic, and the TFC version will be the most awesome Rocket ever produced.

Spy Shots Reveal Triumph’s 2020 Rocket III

Big Cruiser, Big News

We recently reported that Triumph likely has a new 2020 Rocket III cruiser in the works. Well, now you can see it in all its glory thanks to spy shots showcased at Motorcycle.com. The shots show the new bike in all its hulking glory.

The current Rocket III has been out in the U.S. since 2004, so it’s due for a redesign. The monster, three-pot-powered cruiser is loved by many and hated by some. It’s a torque monster, though, and the new one should be more of the same, only better.

The new model appears to stay close to the original Rocket III’s form. The bike has a similar engine configuration and similar overall shape.

What the Images Show

The new bike should get a big 2,500cc three-cylinder engine. It looks bigger on the new bike. The new exhaust system is shorter with both exits on one side as opposed to one on either side like the old bike.

The bike now gets a large monoshock, and Motorcycle.com notes new rear suspension means it has a new frame. It also has beefier front suspension with inverted forks. The bike will remain shaft driven, and the shaft drive fits inside a single-sided swingarm. Brembo brakes are also there.

Overall, the bike looks more muscular than the previous model. This should help it compete with other muscle cruisers like the Ducati Diavel.

It’s a good looking bike, and I’m pretty pumped to see it up close and in person some day. Also, I can’t wait to find out what kind of torque that big engine puts out.

Could a Triumph Factory Custom Rocket III be Coming?

Don’t Bet Against It

We reported on the fact that the first Triumph Factory Custom (TFC) will be a Thruxton R TFC and will come out in January of 2019. In that article, we also mentioned the possibility of the next TFC build being a Rocket III. But could that really be the case? You betcha.

Triumph has a new Rocket III coming out in 2019. It’s been a decade since the last model first graced us with its somewhat odd but likable presence, and frankly, it’s due for an overhaul. It would be smart for Triumph to get people talking about the new bike with a TFC model.

The TFC model could be a good way for Triumph to generate a buzz around its new power cruiser that will compete directly with the Ducati Diavel.

Image Leaked, Gossip Begins

Numerous outlets reported on an image of the new Rocket III being leaked after a Triumph dealer meeting, and there are some blurry images floating around that show a Rocket III test mule quickly riding across the stage. According to Financial Express, the upcoming Rocket III’s triple-cylinder engine will increase to 2,500cc. Horsepower and torque numbers should go up, too.

2019 Triumph Rocket III sketch
Image from Financial Express

With the current 2,294cc engine making 148 hp and 163 lb-ft of torque, you can bet the new bike to be genuinely quick. Triumph appropriately named it. Triumph has made no mention as to the actual power numbers. You can bet the FTC model will receive a modest bump like the Thruxton R FTC does as well as some other special equipment

The Rocket III was never really the runaway success that Triumph hoped. Harley held too much clout in the cruiser market in 2009.

However, the times, they are a-changing. Harley’s future is in trouble. The legendary motorcycle manufacturer can’t wrap itself in the American flag and soldier on like it always has. Its turned to electric motorcycles to try to stop the bleeding.

Time will tell if that’s a smart move, but it makes me think other manufacturers have an opportunity in the cruiser market that never existed before. Maybe the upcoming Rocket III will captivate audiences like its predecessor never did.

Triumph Thruxton R TFC Coming in January

Get Your Bank Account Ready for a High-Spec Thruxton R

The news that Triumph has a special high-spec, limited edition Thruxton R isn’t exactly new. The site Triumphrat reported on it back in October. What is new is that it has come to our attention that the bike is slated to appear in January of 2019.

According to a video on Facebook posted by Tampa Triumph from a dealer event, the public will get all the details of the Thruxton R TFC in the first month of the new year. With that said, we have a few details of the bike to share.

It gets an updated version of the 1200cc engine in the regular Thruxton R with a 10-hp bump and a Vance & Hines titanium exhaust. The bike will also be about 11 pounds lighter.

It also gets new engine mapping; one-piece carbon fiber cockpit fairing; carbon fiber front mudguard, seat cowl, and heel guards; black anodized wheels; gold chain; real leather seat; brushed nickel mirror centers; special TFC badging and instrument faces; and a whole lot more. Triumph will only make 750 of these models and it’s likely to cost upwards of $20,000.

Expect Other Triumph Factory Customs

The Thruxton R TFC is just the tip of the iceberg. Triumph plans on making other TFC versions of its bikes. In the video, it’s clear the company wants to maximize the impact that its new TFC motorcycles can have.

What does that mean for you? Well, at the end of the video it becomes pretty clear. The video ends with the image of a Triumph Rocket III. The Triumph rep says it’s what “the next TFC could be, and what might inspire us.”

I hope a new high-spec limited-edition Rocket III TFC is on the way. As somewhat odd as that bike was I always found it charming. It was Triumph’s attempt at a big cruiser with a lot of torque, and I don’t see anything wrong with that. If the next TFC is a new Rocket III of some kind, I’ll be pretty happy with that.

The Triumph Scrambler 1200 Gets Inspiration Kits

Kits Designed to Pique Further Interest in the Bike

With the upcoming kickoff of the Scrambler 1200, Triumph decided it needed to really get people excited about the bike. The company released two Inspiration Kits for the new motorcycle. These will help make your Scrambler 1200 feel special.

There are two kits: Escape and Extreme. Both offer a unique take on what the Scrambler 1200 can become. The Escape Inspiration Kit is focused on turning the bike into a touring motorcycle that will gobble up the miles with aplomb. The Extreme Inspiration Kit increases the off-road prowess of the mildly capable Scrambler.

The Escape Inspiration Kit

Scrambler 1200 Escape Inspiration Kit
Image from Triumph

As I mentioned above, this kit is all about taking the Scambler 1200 and turning it into a more capable touring machine. The equipment included with the kit should help do this while also giving it a little visual flair.

The kit includes a rugged pannier and fitting kit, handguards, grab rack kit, LED fog lamps, center stand, and a flyscreen with the mounting bits needed. While this equipment should help make it a better tourer, it won’t absolutely transform the motorcycle. You’ll still be able to enjoy the bike for what it is.

The Extreme Inspiration Kit

Scrambler 1200 Extreme Inspiration Kit
Image from Triumph

If you want to take your Scrambler 1200 the other way, then the Extreme Inspiration Kit is for you. Its focus is on making the Scrambler a more legit off-road machine. In order to do this, Triumph had to add a bit more equipment than it did for the Escape kit.

The Extreme kit includes a high front mudguard, carbon Arrow silencer, aluminum radiator guard, machined oil filler cap, black handlebar brace, LED indicator kit with rear light relocation kit, side stand base extension, stainless steel dresser bar, headlight grille, and headlight bezel. This is arguably a more extensive transformation than with the Escape kit.

While both kits add a little style and some extra capability, they do a good job of keeping the Scrambler 1200 what it is, which is smart. After all, Triumph doesn’t want to change what makes the Scrambler alluring, just enhance what’s there.

However, if you really want an off-road bike or a legit touring bike, you’re better off with a different motorcycle. The kits help the model lean a little more one way or the other but neither wildly transform the motorcycle.
