2016 Harley-Davidson Slim S Goodbye

Well unfortunately the time has come to give back the Harley Davidson Slim S build we did and I’m not going to lie, I’ll miss this bike. Once i got the new HD Chizeled bars on, that was it for me, i was hooked. We had a ton of fun on this bike stock and customized. That 110 motor paired with the Slim’s weight is great. It may be December, but here in Southern California it is still riding weather. I took the Slim S down to Seal Beach to get some last photographs for you all. You know what they say, all good things must come to an end.

It’s not all bad news though, I will be returning the Slim S in a few days but I will be picking up our next project bike to start on. I am extremely excited for the new 2016 Sportster 48 that we will be trading the Slim S for. We already have the parts on order and we think the direction we are going with it will be a crowd pleaser. Stay tuned!

Harley-Davidson Slim S Project: New Air Cleaner & Exhaust

The second part of our Slim S project is upon us! This one was an easy guess and I am sure all of you guessed this part of our project. I added a set of Screamin’ Eagle Street Cannon slip-on mufflers with the Screamin’ Eagle end caps to finish off the look. The Slim S comes stock with a high flow air intake, but we decided to replace it with a more aesthetically pleasing version. We got the Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator Elite air cleaner kit to do give the Slim s a more aggressive look to it.

For only upgrading the mufflers it sounds surprisingly different, and in a good way too! It has a very nice, deeper note to it now and the good thing with Screamin’ Eagle is, it is still under the legal decibel limit (street legal). So you can rest easy as you are riding next to one of those pesky highway patrol officers. Since the Slim S comes with an already blacked out exhaust, we saved money by not needing to purchase a set of black header heat-shields. And saving money is always a plus.

Replacing the OEM air cleaner was not really necessary because as i mentioned earlier, the Slim S comes with a high-flow right off the showroom floor. For me personally, I am not a huge fan of the new clam shell styled air cleaner covers that Harley has started using starting with the Rushmore Project. So replacing it was more of a styling choice for us rather than a performance upgrade. I Like the oval shape from Screamin’ Eagle much better. And the Ventilator Elite has some nice carbon fiber in-lays to make the cover really pop long with the Screamin’ Eagle badge that is sandwiched between the two.

For only upgrading the mufflers it sounds surprisingly different, and in a good way too!

So like I said this part of the project was most likely guessed by all of you out there, but let us know what you think of our choices of mufflers and air cleaner kit. Would you have picked a different set? We have one more part to this project and we will be getting that together within the next few weeks so keep checking! The last part of the project is going to change the style of the bike in a big way, and I am very excited to get the next step installed. One more thing left guys, what do you think it will be? Keep the ideas flowing and we will see you back here soon!

Harley-Davidson Slim S Project: New Lighting

Alright guys so for the first part of this project I have installed a few of my personal favorite upgrades. I threw on the H-D Daymaker headlight along with the Daymaker LED auxiliary lights wrapped in the black auxiliary housing kit. An extremely easy upgrade are the smoked lenses and they make a huge difference in styling. Harley’s bullet style turn signals are a great design, making a sleek styled unit, but still with a decent face large enough to get other motorist’s attention. Getting rid of the unpleasant orange lens makes the entire unit perfect. Not only do the blacked out LED Daymakers look amazing, they light up the whole damn world! We took one of many happy customer’s reviews off of Harley-Davidson.com. DeDog of Michigan says: “By far some of the best money I have spent for my own safety. This provides much better night vision as well as daylight visibility for other drivers. Looks great too. I would purchase again without hesitation.”

Adding just the headlight dramatically improves the field of visibility at night, but adding the two auxiliary lights as well lights up so much more of the road ahead of you. The trio makes an extremely wide beam of highly focused white light. You don’t have to worry about not being seen at night with these lights that is for sure. I installed the same setup on my personal Road King years ago when Harley first introduced them and have been an advocate of them ever since. Continuing with the lighting system I also installed Harley’s black flush-mounted fuel gauge and gas cap. I also installed flush-mount system on my personal Road King years ago.

By far some of the best money I have spent for my own safety. This provides much better night vision as well as daylight visibility for other drivers. Looks great too. I would purchase again without hesitation.

The Slim S comes off the showroom floor all blacked out already but adding these minor additions brings the blacked out vibe to life even more, which you may have figured out, is exactly my style. I have more installs coming so keep your eyes peeled. So how many of you out there foresaw this upgrade? I am sure there are a few of you who guessed it right away. We still have more to come so keep submitting your thoughts, we do read them and I find it interesting the direction some of you think I am going with this project.
