Here’s the 2020 Zero SR/F Electric Motorcycle

It’s an Impressive-Looking Bike

The electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero has finally released the details of its new SR/F electric motorcycle. The company spent the last couple of months teasing little tidbits of information about its bike, and now with all of the stats in, we can say things look pretty good.

The Zero SR/F looks like an awesome naked motorcycle. The company really nailed it in the styling department. The SR/F delivers in the looks department. It’s sporty and aggressive without getting too weird. It’s a modern and attractive style that I can imagine few riders disliking.

Also, the power numbers are pretty great. The new electric motor on the SR/F makes 110 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. That amount of power is good for a top speed of 124 mph. That’s not insanely fast, but it’s more than quick enough. With instant torque, I imagine it would get there pretty quickly, too.

The 14.4 kWh battery is the same used in the high-end versions of its S and SR models. It’s great that the company manages to get between 109 and 123 miles per charge depending on the speed you travel, but I was hoping for something a little bit more from the battery. Luckily, Zero has a power tank option that will come later that can boost range to 200 miles per charge. Charge times are also pretty low with the battery reaching 95 percent in as little as an hour.

The price at $18,995 for the standard version (the premium sits at $20,995) is certainly much better than Harley’s LiveWire price but still wasn’t quite as low as I was hoping. With Lightning Motorcycles set to debut a motorcycle with more range standard and higher top speed for $13,000, I was hoping for a bit more. Still, this is by far the best Zero bike ever made, and a serious move forward.

The Zero SR/F Will be the Company’s Most Powerful Bike Yet

Another Teaser Gives Allows for Performance Speculation

Zero Motorcycles will give all the juicy details of its new SR/F model come February 25, but the company keeps the teasers coming in the meantime. The most recent teaser is the video below. It’s a series of close up shots of the bike that gives you a look at some of its key components.

The most notable are the battery and the electric motor. there’s also a shot of the front wheel with a good look at what’s likely a very capable front brake. With these short close up shots, we’re starting to get a better overall picture of what the SR/F could look like. That’s only part of what you should get excited about. The details in the video also provide enough info to make some performance predictions.

The first is the battery. It has the numbers 14.4. That’s likely the 14.4 kWh battery that’s optional on Zero’s current bikes. If that were to be the case, you’re looking at getting 120 miles max out of the battery.

The second is the electric motor shown in the video. You can see it says Z-Force 75-10. Zero already has a Z-Force 75-7 for its bikes. That motor shoots out 70 hp and 116 lb-ft of torque. It’s also good for a top speed of 106 mph. With that info, it’s reasonable to assume that the Z-Force 75-10 in the video can make more power than that.

While 120 miles seems a little low to me, it’s better than Harley’s number and the SR/F will likely be cheaper than $30k. Still, if I were in the market for an electric sporty bike, I’d look Lightning Motorcycle’s way. If the performance speculation above is accurate, Zero falls short of its new competitor.

Zero Motorcycles Teases New Image of SR/F

We reported not long ago that Zero has a new motorcycle in the works. It’s called the SR/F and the company just teased a new image of the bike (shown above).

While you can’t tell a ton from the image, you can see that it looks remarkably similar to the Zero SR. With that said, it should still be an all-new bike built on an all-new platform.

Zero will unveil more details on February 25th. It likely wants to get people talking about its bike again. While it stirred up some commotion with the first teaser of the SR/F, other manufacturers like Harley-Davidson and Lightning Motorcycles have dominated the electric motorcycle discussion since then.

This is Zero’s attempt to steer the conversation back towards itself. I can’t really say much about the SR/F at this time simply because I don’t know anything really other than what you can see from the image.

I assumed the F in SR/F meant the bike gets a fairing. However, from the profile image teased, it looks like another naked street bike with a more aggressive style but still a more upright seating position.

However, much of the bike is still in shadow and it’s hard to make out the details. All I know is that it better be able to match or beat Lightning Motorcycle’s Strike bike on battery range, speed, charging time, and price. That seems to be what the electric bike conversation revolves around.

If Zero can make its new bike for around or under $12,000 and beat the competition in terms of performance, then it’ll have a winner on its hands. More details will come in February.

Zero Motorcycles Teases New Bike Called SR/F

All New Electric Nake Street Bike

Zero Motorcycles recently teased a new model it’s calling the SR/F. The company posted a super short video to YouTube. With just eight seconds of footage, Zero sent a lot of motorcycle enthusiasts into a frothy electrically charged tizzy.

The company didn’t say much about the model. Eight seconds isn’t a lot of time to do much. It’s a proper tease, though. Well-crafted and suggestive while leaving just about all relevant information out.

All I can say about the upcoming SR/F is what the video description does. The bike will be an all-new model built on an all-new platform. It fits into the naked street bike category and is “effortlessly powerful,” according to Zero.

Beyond that, there isn’t much to say other than the fact that Zero Motorcycles had the date 2/25/19 included in the video. More information about the bike is likely to come at that date, so I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for updates.

You can check out the video above and sign up for updates from Zero if you want by clicking here.

Are we ready for an electric chopper?

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
Are electric bikes the future? We’re not sure—but with EU regulations getting progressively more restrictive, it’s not completely unfathomable.

If that day ever comes, put us down for one of these. Yes, you’re looking at an electric chopper—and a damn pretty one at that.

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
It’s the brainchild of electrical engineer Bruno Forcella, who works under the alias of Sine Cycles. He actually built the bike over a year ago, but it’s the first we’ve heard of it. And it’s so intriguing, that we had to share.

Why an electric chopper? Simple: Bruno wanted to build something out of the ordinary, but couldn’t figure out quite how. Then it hit him.

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
“An electric drivetrain in an open frame style chopper,” he says, pointing out the main components: the heat sink, the battery housing and “a good looking, highly efficient electric motor.”

Bruno started by stripping a second hand Cleveland Cyclewerks Heist down to a rolling chassis. He then de-tabbed it, and added new mounts to hold the electric drivetrain.

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
The drivetrain itself is from Zero Motorcycles. Zero don’t normally sell their proprietary parts—only complete bikes—but somehow Bruno convinced them.

That means his little hardtail is now good for 57Nm of torque, with a clutchless direct drive sending power straight to the back wheel. The range is only about 55km, and the top speed is about 120km/h.

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
Then of course there’s Zero’s app: it syncs via Bluetooth, and feeds the bike’s stats to the user, allowing them to programme their own riding modes.

Bruno wedged the new mill into the frame, refinishing everything in black and polishing the cooling fins to add some contrast. The layout is far less cluttered than a traditional engine, adding a touch of minimalism.

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
The rest of the bike’s been built up with more conventional chopper parts. There’s a Rich Phillips seat, sitting on Lowbrow Customs springs. And the rear fender is a modded Led Sled Customs item, with a small LED tail light tucked into it.

Bruno fabricated the spring mounts, fender struts and license plate holder himself. He also built a neat little dash, to hold a digital Motogadget speedo and warning lights. The bars are from LSL, capped off with Motogadget switches and modified Louis grips.

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
The final piece of the puzzle is the Cole Foster tank. Obviously it holds no fuel; Bruno’s modified it to house the electronic components used by the Zero engine.

Since he’s based in Switzerland—where vehicle laws are strict—the Sine Cycles chopper isn’t street legal yet. So you could say Bruno doesn’t get nearly as much riding time as he’d like…

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
He’s taken it to a couple of shows though. Apparently some guys love it—but others only love it until they find out it’s electric.

“One guy told me that the way I customized the bike was simply great,” says Bruno, “but years ahead of its time, and that most people weren’t ready for this. I took this as a compliment.”

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
He’s certainly stirred interest, with requests coming in from all sides—including enquiries from dealers. And his next bike is already in the works…

“Feedback on the design was positive all over. So I’m not planning drastic changes,” he tells us. “But the bike definitely needs more range.”

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
So what’s it like owning an electric chopper?

“There’s only very little maintenance needed, no more changing oil or filters, no more replacing sparkplugs or timing belts and so on.”

“And the instant torque of an electric drivetrain is just awesome. If you ever get a chance for an electric ride, go for it!”

Watt The—: An Electric chopper by Sine Cycles
Was that an offer, Bruno? I think it’s time we booked our tickets to Switzerland.
