Dainese Launches New Dainese Experience Training Program With Valentino Rossi

Improve Your Skills In the Best Way Possible

On April 17 at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, the Dainese Experience will begin. It’s a series of training events for riders of all skill levels that will help them improve their skills. The master classes will take a group of riders, divide them up by skill level, and then provide training from some of the best instructors and riders around the world.

The Dainese VR46 Class will be an exclusive opportunity to learn from nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi at the Misano World Circuit. Dainese will auction off tickets for that specific class. All the proceeds will go to the Marco Simoncelli Foundation.

The Champions Class is designed for people who have some minor track experience. MotoGP World Championship riders Franco Morbidelli, Luca Marini, Lorenzo Baldassarri, and Marco Bezzecchi will coach riders in this particular class.

The Dainese Riding Master Misano is the last section and split into Racing Classes and Safety Classes. Racing Classes will have five riding sessions. Reserved for those who have solid skills on the bike already, the classes will help riders improve skills. The Safety Classes are for riders with considerably less experience. The classes focus on learning the basics and improving skills in a fun and safe environment.

If you’re looking for a way to get into the Dainese Experience, check out the company’s webpage for it.

Alpinestars Responds to Munich Court Ruling, Fight Continues

Alpinestars Isn’t Backing Down

We reported that the court ruling that Alpinestars infringed on Daixnese’s patent for its D-Air gear recently. That court ruling states that Alpinestars can’t continue to sell its Air-Tech gear in Germany and has to compensate Dainese for the infringement and recall all the gear it sold there that infringes on the patent.

According to a press release from Alpinestars and Motorcycle.com, the patent infringement pertains to the way in which Alpinestars added the airbag tech to its gear. The infringement occurred due to the placement of an air bladder inside a pocket with elastic panels. Alpinestars suggests that because this was the issue, other companies may be in violation of the patent.

Alpinestars also noted the patent EP 2 412 257 B1 is just one of three that Dianese originally brought up. Dianese withdrew one of the complaints and German courts annulled another in May of 2018. It’s only the last patent infringement that seems to hold any weight. Alpinestars says that patent is not in relation to the specifics of its Ait-Tech Technology.

Alpinestars also reiterates that this court ruling just impacts the sale of its Air-Tech gear in Germany not the rest of Europe. The company also pointed out that it has an appeal with the German Federal Court of Justice on the validity of the patent. The final decision on this court battle between the two companies has not been settled yet, and it looks like the fight will continue.

Munich Court of Appeals Determines Alpinestars Infringed on Dainese’s European Patent

The Claim Was More Than Just Hot Air

According to a Dainese press release, a Munich Court of Appeals came to the conclusion after a long judicial battle that Alpinestar’s Tech-Air Street airbag Vest designed for road use and Tech-Air Racing airbag Vest designed for track use both infringe on the European patent EP 2 412 257 B1 issued to Dainese.

The decision comes after a similar decision that Alpinestars appealed by a German Federal Patent Court. That verdict came in 2017. Now, Alpinestars will have to take the case to the German Federal Supreme Court in order to get the ruling overturned.

The case stems from the patent for Dainese’s D-Air technology. The airbag safety tech was patented before Alpinestars came out with its Tech-Air gear. According to the ruling, Alpinestars can’t continue to sell the products. It will also have to recall any vests issued after June 1, 2015. This will impact some German commercial customers. Alpinestars will also have to compensate Dainese for all damages incurred since June 1, 2015.

The amount of money that’s wrapped up in the statement was undisclosed in the press release by Dainese. I would imagine it’s somewhere in the millions of dollars. While the first court ruling was a big win for Dainese, this one is even more impactful. We’ve not heard whether or not Alpinestars will continue to fight the decision and take this issue to the German Federal Supreme Court.

It’s a shame really, I’m all for more airbag technology making its way into motorcycle gear. With that said, it’d be nice companies could do it without infringing on each other’s patents.

New AGV AX9 Helmet Launches in North America

Multiple Configurations, Multiple Uses

AGV has been building quality motorcycle helmets since the 1940s. Today, Dainese owns it. Any time the company comes out with something new, you’d better take note. On December 12, AGV announced the North American launch of its new AX9 helmet.

The AX9 follows in the footsteps of the AX8 helmet that came before it but offers some new design features and updates. It’s sleeker overall and more of an on-road lid than the AX8 ever was.

The AX9 is special because it can be used in four different configurations. It all depends on what you need. The adventure touring rider who needs a helmet for off-road duty but likes to spend most of his or her time on pavement should be quite happy with the AX9.

A Look at Its Features

The AX9 comes with a bevy of favorable traits including an advanced and adjustable five-vent system for airflow, top-of-the-line comfort with an interior that features antibacterial and moisture wicking materials, a fog and scratch resistant visor that provides 190-degree horizontal vision and 110-degree vertical vision, and a shell made of a carbon, aramid, and and fiberglass composite.

The technical features don’t stop there. It also gets a Shalimar and Nubuck fabric neckroll, an adjustable peak that’s more aerodynamic, a removable and washable interior, a visor micro opening for enhanced airflow, and the visor comes off the helmet so you can wear goggles if you wish. Additionally, the AX9 comes ready to take generic communication systems.

Overall, the AX9 does a good job of taking what the AX8 was good at and improving upon it. With a price tag starting at $499 and seven different graphic designs, the AX9 looks like it could be a winner for AGV.

Dainese Amfibio Cafe Boots: Review

Dainese Amfibio Cafe Boot MSRP- $259.95

Anyone who has experience with motorcycle gear can tell you that it’s easy to find functional gear, and it’s easy to find stylish gear, but finding the combination of fit, form and function is always a challenge.

This is an area in which Dainese’s 36060 collection has excelled since it’s recent inception.

The classically styled pieces merge with Dainese’s top notch technical design to bring you peak performing riding gear, that looks and feels good enough to wear all day off the bike.

The Amfibio Cafe Boot is just that: a fully functional riding boot that looks good and is comfortable enough to be a solid daily wear. With the shift pad, nylon reinforced ankle and polyurethane inserts in the heal and the toebox, you have the support and feel of a modern boot with a look that screams of sixties cafe cool. Since I got these boots they have been my go-to shoe, and I am yet to find anything to complain about. Sure they don’t have a zipper for a quick on/off but they’re classic and I think a zipper would detract from the overall look and feel. For a solid daily boot that looks and feels as good off the bike as it functions on it, the Amfibio Cafe Boot is a win across the board.
