New AGV AX9 Helmet Launches in North America

Multiple Configurations, Multiple Uses

AGV has been building quality motorcycle helmets since the 1940s. Today, Dainese owns it. Any time the company comes out with something new, you’d better take note. On December 12, AGV announced the North American launch of its new AX9 helmet.

The AX9 follows in the footsteps of the AX8 helmet that came before it but offers some new design features and updates. It’s sleeker overall and more of an on-road lid than the AX8 ever was.

The AX9 is special because it can be used in four different configurations. It all depends on what you need. The adventure touring rider who needs a helmet for off-road duty but likes to spend most of his or her time on pavement should be quite happy with the AX9.

A Look at Its Features

The AX9 comes with a bevy of favorable traits including an advanced and adjustable five-vent system for airflow, top-of-the-line comfort with an interior that features antibacterial and moisture wicking materials, a fog and scratch resistant visor that provides 190-degree horizontal vision and 110-degree vertical vision, and a shell made of a carbon, aramid, and and fiberglass composite.

The technical features don’t stop there. It also gets a Shalimar and Nubuck fabric neckroll, an adjustable peak that’s more aerodynamic, a removable and washable interior, a visor micro opening for enhanced airflow, and the visor comes off the helmet so you can wear goggles if you wish. Additionally, the AX9 comes ready to take generic communication systems.

Overall, the AX9 does a good job of taking what the AX8 was good at and improving upon it. With a price tag starting at $499 and seven different graphic designs, the AX9 looks like it could be a winner for AGV.

SImpson Race Products has been around for ages making top of the line helmets and suits for everything from Nascar to NHRA drags, but in more recent years they have found incredible success in motorcycle helmets. The Street Bandit and M30 are two of the most badass helmets on the market, not to mention the new M50, which can be seen in our recent VIDEO HERE.

Simpson Ghost Bandit

The new Simpson Ghost Bandit is the most comfortable, convenient and modern of the Simpson motorcycle lineup. With venting up front and exhaust vents in the rear, this helmet will allow for much more airflow than some of their other moto models. There is also a flipdown sun visor, actuated with a slide on the left side, which is convenient when touring or if you primarily ride at night and prefer a clear shield. Another modern convenience is the speaker holes worked into the hard foam beside the ears.

We love that Simpson has upped their game a little bit with this helmet, while maintaining their trademark badass look. We can’t wait to get some saddle time with this lid and let you know how it feels and sounds out on the road!

The Simpson M50 is one of, if not THE most stylish of the modern vintage helmets to hit the market in the last few years. Updated from the classic 70s shell to meet modern DOT standards and offered in five different colors with the classic visor.

Like most vintage helmets, the only venting comes through the front vents and the eye hole, but what this classic loses in ventilation and technical functionality, it more than makes up for in style.

Neko Helmet from Nitrinos Motostudio in single color is available for $495

Novelty helmets aren’t something you’ll find us here at Cruiser writing about too often. Sure, they look cool most of the time and they’re always pretty far out. But for the most part, they provide no actual safety function and draw too much attention for our liking. These anime-inspired cat helmets on the other hand, have us LOLing and wondering how much your neck would hurt from the drag of those big ears.

These helmets are offered in a range of color options, including one that lets you pick what you want printed on there. The possibilities are endless. What could you put on there to freak out cagers? With a helmet like this, it probably wouldn’t take much.

Sena Unveils Intelligent Noise Control Helmet

Of the unveils and product launches at AIMExpo last week, SENA Bluetooth‘s was without a doubt one of the most impressive. They have brought to the table a noise cancelling helmet. The concept here brings some obvious questions up, like what about the vast array of noises that you need to hear while on the road? Do I have to take the helmet off to talk to a buddy at a stop? They’ve thought of these.

The helmet has two large ear-encompassing padded speakers inside the helmet, each of which is equipped with three microphones to ‘listen’ to the noise that is happening around you and tune out those frequencies. you don’t have to be listening to music to enjoy the benefits of this helmet either, I was standing directly in front of the presenter while wearing this helmet and couldn’t hear a word until I hit the ‘Ambient Noise’ button conveniently located on the visor hinge. Once I hit the ‘hear stuff’ button, I was listening to the presenter through the mics in the speakers, which was interesting because you end up picking up your own voice from the microphone in the front of the helmet as well.

The button placement on the helmet is minimal and the functionality seemed very well thought out. Like I mentioned earlier, the buttons on the visor hinge is a great way to sneak a couple extra function controls onto the helmet without cluttering up the minimal control system on the side. The helmet is also constructed out of a durable carbon fiber shell, bringing the weight down to only 2.6 pounds.

This helmet is being released in 2016 and we are excited to get to try one out on the road! Until then, follow Sena for updates on the latest in motorcycle bluetooth technology.

AGV K5: Overview

AGV K5

AGV is one of Europe’s most respected motorcycle protection brands, and for good reason. Providing legendary protection to riders for years and constantly upping the ante with high-style aggressive helmets like this one and the AGV AX-8 Evo Naked

, which we had the pleasure of reviewing earlier this year.

They pulled out all of the stops and implemented all of the newest technology with this helmet, which hits the market with a mid-range price of $349.95 for the solid colors and $399.95 for the graphics. The helmet fit very comfortably without any pressure points, is lightweight and quiet at speed. The K5 carries itself like a much more expensive helmet and the Share system follows in suit.

The Share Connective System fit into the K5 in a matter of minutes, as they were designed to work together. There are two small pads in the front of the helmet that pop out to fit the battery and the microphone/ brains of the operation. After snapping the lining of the helmet back in and pairing my phone up (effortlessly, I might add) I was on the freeway listening to my music loud and clear in this stylish and aggressive new AGV helmet.

Features:
* External shell is constructed of CAF (Carbon-Fiberglass) and is manufactured in 2 sizes
* EPS inner lining available in 4 sizes with 4 different densities

AGV AX-8 Evo Naked Helmet

There are many factors that come into play when looking for a new helmet, but for most of us, style is among the most important. It is for that reason that I was initally attracted to the AGV AX-8 Evo Naked, but it’s fit and function are what really sold me.

The aggressive look of the AX-8 EVO NAKED helmet appeals to a wide range of riders complimenting the style and design of Streetfighters, Supermotos or Naked bikes. Using the same distinctive modern lines of our Ax-8 Evo Dual Sport helmet, the Naked version offers a sleek, protective, comfortable, lightweight, and uncompromising helmet perfect for experienced and new riders alike.

The AGV AX-8 Evo Naked is designed to improve the aerodynamics: the removal of the peak and the upper air-intake, reduces drag effect and assures a smoother air flow for maximum performance.

The lower section of the AX-8 Naked is shaped to maximize the interaction with back protectors, while the pronounced chin bar has a shock absorber function which prevents and reduces impact traumas. These improvements result in the ultimate aggressive and minimalistic design.

The new skin-friendly fabrics of the AX-8 Naked improve the comfort of the fit and reduce rubbing when putting on and or taking off the helmet. The new internal padding with increased thickness improves comfort while wearing. It is composed of a Dry-lex material that has been provided with sanitizing treatment. It is completely removable and washable, including the flap on the strap in order to ensure constantly perfect hygiene inside the helmet.
