Speed and Strength: Cruise Missile Armored Hoodie

Speed & Strength Cruise Missile Armored Hoody

Dress for the slide, not the ride. Or in this case, you can dress for both. This lightweight, stylish sweatshirt is fully armoured with shoulder, elbow and back protectors. The sweatshirt is also equipped with zippered hand warming pockets, as well as belt snaps to keep the hoody from riding up in case of a slide. The pads are a bit large, which means you may look a little bit like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or one of the hyper-yoked dudes from Jersey Shore, but who says that’s a bad thing? Especially when you know you’re propper protected should any part of your ride go awry.

Rev’it! Guardian Two-Piece Rain Suit (front view) and Honda CB1100 with Held 20L Tank Bag

Rain is one of the major challenges that face daily commuters and everyday riders. The roads are slippery, it’s hard to see through your visor, and if you get wet it gets real cold real quick. Luckily there are a good amount of products out there to help keep us warm and focused on what’s really important: keeping the rubber on that wet and slippery road.

Rev’it! Guardian Rain Suit helps you stay dry and focused in the rain

The Rev’it! Guardian Jacket and Pants are sold separately but work together perfectly to keep you warm and dry when riding in foul weather. The jacket is available for $219.99 and is much more than the typical plastic parka that you get with most rain shells. It has a hide-away hood that tucks into the neck, which is lined with some softer fabric so it keeps you a little warmer and is quite comfortable on your neck. The fit is a bit looser, I was wearing it over my leather jacket and a sweater in the photos up above, but there are adjustable straps in the arms and the sides of the body to make sure it’s not flapping around in the wind. There is a waterproof pocket inside, as well as elastic around the wrists and neck.

The pants are available for $169.99 and again, are much more than a simple rainproof layer. A big problem for me has been that when I put my feet down at a stop, the bulk of synthetic fabric at near my boots would melt from contact on the exhaust pipe. The Rev’it! layer has a small piece of fabric down by the ankles that prevents this from happening, which is one less thing you have to worry about when managing the elements and trying to ride in the rain.

All around, this combo is effective at keeping you dry, raising your visibility in the rain, and not making you look like a hi-vis doofus. It’s in the slightly higher price bracket, but these are products built to last and are sure to be around for many seasons of riding.

Crave Denim Motorcycle Jacket

Motorcycle jackets come in all shapes and sizes. One can find a riding jacket to fit just about any style, which gives the rider a full pass to be picky when it comes to who you give your money to. You want to make sure that the jacket fits your style, but is also made with high quality protective components in case things go wrong. And with the way modern protective fabrics have progressed, you shouldn’t have to look like Ironman to be covered.

The Crave Denim Jacket is constructed with an outer shell of high quality black denim, and lined ENTIRELY (not just the elbows and shoulders) in Dupont Kevlar. There are pockets in the elbow, back and shoulders for protectors if you want to put those in as well.

There is a zipper that runs the length of about a third of the sleeve and down the body to vent the armpits, which is a thing many stylish moto-brands leave out and is very much appreciated on this jacket. The collar, sleeves and pockets are kept in place with velcro closures so you don’t have to fiddle with buttons or straps while your riding. The fit is spot on as well: with the vents both open and close I have gotten none of the wind-flap that can come with some other casual jackets. Fitted with a small pocket on the bottom of the left sleeve and a slightly larger phone/ wallet pocket on the right shoulder, as well as the four pockets on the front of the jacket and one inside, this layer will leave you plenty of room to stash all your goodies.

This jacket has quickly become a go-to for all mild weather riding and won’t be going on the shelf any time soon.

Tobacco Denim was launched with Kickstarter years ago and they have been bringing high quality and American made riding denim to the menswear market for about a year now. However there was always a hole in their catalogue, one that was brought to their attention constantly by female riders: they didn’t have a women’s selection.

All that is about to change. Tobacco has developed a line of samples of what riders have said is “the perfect riding jean,” but they need your help to help make it a reality. If you want to be a part of this awesome company’s mission to bring protective riding jeans for women to the market, CLICK HERE to support them on Kickstarter.

Crave Kevlar Motorcycle Riding Shirt

Summer is almost over but down here in SoCal it is still too hot for leathers! Luckily the dudes over at Crave have us all set with this wicked riding shirt: the Axe II. Lined entirely with Kevlar and an outer shell made of a breathable fabric blend (98% polyester, 2% lycra), this easy later will keep you safe if you happen to slide, but without overheating on your regular ride.

Crave does a great job of taking casual style and pieces like the ones we have owned for years and updating them brilliantly with modern protective fabrics and conveniences for today’s motorcyclist.

Crave Axe II Kevlar riding flannel

Velcro at the ends of the sleeves and the top of the collar make it easy to close on the fly or with your gloves on, and vents in the armpits make sure to direct air to your sweatier regions. Pockets in the shoulders, back and elbows provide a space for your padded protectors if you want to run those.

Stay tuned for more products from Crave, they’re a company that has impressed us with everything we have seen from them and can’t wait to test out more!

AGV K5: Overview

AGV K5

AGV is one of Europe’s most respected motorcycle protection brands, and for good reason. Providing legendary protection to riders for years and constantly upping the ante with high-style aggressive helmets like this one and the AGV AX-8 Evo Naked

, which we had the pleasure of reviewing earlier this year.

They pulled out all of the stops and implemented all of the newest technology with this helmet, which hits the market with a mid-range price of $349.95 for the solid colors and $399.95 for the graphics. The helmet fit very comfortably without any pressure points, is lightweight and quiet at speed. The K5 carries itself like a much more expensive helmet and the Share system follows in suit.

The Share Connective System fit into the K5 in a matter of minutes, as they were designed to work together. There are two small pads in the front of the helmet that pop out to fit the battery and the microphone/ brains of the operation. After snapping the lining of the helmet back in and pairing my phone up (effortlessly, I might add) I was on the freeway listening to my music loud and clear in this stylish and aggressive new AGV helmet.

Features:
* External shell is constructed of CAF (Carbon-Fiberglass) and is manufactured in 2 sizes
* EPS inner lining available in 4 sizes with 4 different densities
* Shell and EPS dimensions are optimized using the FEM (Finite Elements Analysis)
* Ventilation system: IVS consisting of one chin guard vent, 2 front air vents and an air extractor with rear on/off switch, developed in the wind tunnel for optimum air flow and stability
* Central front air vent built into the shell profile with direct high air flow channel
* Rear spoiler integrated into the shell profile
* Removable and washable liner and cheek pads made of sanitized 3D Dry-Comfort material
* Includes removable breath deflector and chin curtain
* Face shield is scratch-resistant and anti-fog polycarbonate with 100% UV protection and is offered in 2 sizes dependent on helmet size
* GT 2-1 (for helmet sizes XS, SM and MS and GT 2 for sizes ML, LG, XL and 2XL
* Visor micro-opening system
* XQRS (Extra Quick Release System) visor mechanism for quick removal of the visor

Sidi Canyon Gore-Tex Boots

New gear can come and go, but it’s that old leather jacket that’s perfectly broken in, that helmet that you rode out to Sturgis in with your favorite stickers, or the pair of old yellow work gloves that fit just right that really stands the test of time. After a couple days in these boots, I knew they would soon be my ‘Old Faithfuls’.

I just got this boot and have been immediately impressed by both the quality of construction and comfort. The Velco closure makes for an easy on/off and the quick latch buckle adds another level of convenience. Most of Sidi’s boots are full-fledged race shoes with slide plates and all the technical trimming, so it’s no surprise that the Canyon Gore-Tex is also equipped with as many safety features as they could hide beneath the casual black leather exterior.

While the Gore-Tex liner will keep your feet warm and dry, the Canyon also manages to keep your feet cool enough while riding on hot days: a trait not easily achieved with tall padded riding boots. The boot has a padded shin, ankle pads, shift pad on the toe, reflective inserts on the back and toe, as well as removable sole for customizing the fit.

If you have ever had the chance to own a pair of Sidi Boots you know the quality that they are constructed with. Though $350 may not be the cheapest boots on the rack, they might just be the best bang for your buck in the long term, as the Goodyear welt is resoleable and the upper is made of a high quality full grain leather.

Great support and safety features on the bike, comfortable enough to walk around in all day, and they have a great casual look that’s easy to rock wherever you’re going. We love the Sidi Canyon Gore-Tex boots and can’t wait to spend some more time riding in them.
