New Bonneville Engine family
The Bonneville engine family is the new heart of the iconic British twin.

Built specifically for the modern classic riding style, each new engine delivers more torque, more immediate and exciting power delivery and a richer sound you can really feel and hear.

With three new engines:

The 900cc high torque engine of the new Street Twin.
Delivering a massive peak torque figure of 80Nm at a low 3200 rpm – which is an amazing 18% more than the previous generation, delivered low down and across the whole rev range.

The 1200cc high torque engine of the Bonneville T120 and T120 Black.

The game-changing 1200cc high power ‘Thruxton spec’ engine.
With immediate, exciting power delivery and a massive peak torque figure of 112Nm at 4950 rpm – an amazing 62% higher than the previous generation Thruxton.

All with truly modern capability, including the pinpoint accuracy and instant throttle response of Triumph’s next generation ride-by-wire fuel-injection system, and
liquid cooling that improves fuel economy by an amazing 36% on the Street Twin alone. In addition, the 1200’s all feature rider modes for enhanced responsiveness and control.

2016 Triumph Bonneville T120 and T120 Black

The unmistakable sound of a British twin
Each model has a totally new exhaust system and a unique exhaust note that matches its character, tuned to a level that you can feel and hear.

More Beautiful
Designed from original Bonneville lines, more refined, sharper, tighter and crafted, applying styling cues faithfully taken from the classic Bonneville bikes – like the 1968 Bonneville and the 1959 original.

They feature high quality finishes and a striking level of detailing to enhance their iconic looks, such as the beautifully crafted new Monza-style filler cap on the Thruxton.

An innovative approach to sensitively incorporating modern functionality, including the exhaust system on the T120 and T120 Black, which has an authentic and clean straight through design, achieved by an ingenious twin skin design that covers the pipe run, through the cat box under the bike, and out again.

More capable
The inclusion of rider-focused technology has been implemented with care to deliver an engaged and safer ride, without compromising the style or character of the bikes – this includes ABS, traction control, slip assist clutch, ride-by-wire throttle and rider modes (T120, T120 Black, Thruxton R and Thruxton), distinctive LED rear lights on all models and LED DRL headlights on all the 1200s (where legislation allows), USB charging socket and an engine immobiliser.

A completely new, ground up chassis design unique to each motorcycle, incorporates all-new suspension and geometry, so all of the new models deliver stunning handling, stability and neutrality tailored to the style and character of each motorcycle, making them easier to ride for longer. This is particularly true when combined with the light action of the new slip assist clutch.

More ways to make your own Bonneville yours
With the launch of the new Bonneville custom accessories range, presenting over 470 new, stylish, high quality accessories, it’s never been easier to create your own special. This includes new exhausts from Vance & Hines and a garage full of custom inspired parts, from mudguard removal kits, to bench seats and beautiful compact bullet indicators to name only a few.

To make it easier, they’ve also created a set of exciting ‘inspiration’ kits to use as the starting point for riders to create their own Bonneville custom, or to have fitted by their Triumph dealer as a complete set – from Scramblers and Brat Trackers, to Track racers and Café racers. This includes, for the first time, a full factory Thruxton R Race Performance kit, specifically developed for closed circuit competition.

An unparalleled bloodline
Named after the Utah salt flats where a Triumph 650 Twin streamliner, piloted by Texan racer Johnny Allen, shattered the two-wheel world land speed record in 1956. First produced in 1959, the T120 Triumph Bonneville was the original British superbike and, thanks to its legendary handling, style, character and sheer individuality, it has become a genuine icon to riders the world over.

The five new Bonneville models draw on the distinguished and unbroken Triumph heritage of performance and style, from the Speed Twin 5T, the original 1937 500cc parallel twin that set the template for British motorcycling, followed by the 1949 Thunderbird 650, famously ridden by Marlon Brando in ‘The Wild One’, to the rip-snorting Tiger T110, the bike that the original 59 Bonneville eclipsed with its new twin carbs and class-leading performance.

The Bonneville played a major part in the creation of modern motorcycle motorsport and was a race winner ‘straight out of the crate’ – from Isle of Man TT wins, to flat track racing, to the International Six Day Trial and the Thruxton 500 series, where the racing Bonneville gained its legendary name.

In it’s early years, it inspired a sub-culture of teenage rockers and café racers, drawing attention and turning heads at coffee bars and burn-ups all over the country – becoming the ride of choice for stars and celebrities like Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood and Bob Dylan, and again today, chosen by a new generation of customisers and riders looking to own a real icon.

The future of the Bonneville, not a futuristic Bonneville
The interest and appeal of modern classic motorcycles is growing and evolving quickly, with many manufacturers bringing new models onto the market.

From the rider’s perspective, they want beautiful motorcycles with real character and traditional values, combined with contemporary levels of refinement and capability.

Their new Bonneville family takes the legendary story to the next chapter with a major injection of performance, and real riding capability, without losing the original character of the iconic Bonneville, and without becoming a techno reinvention with just a styling nod to the past.

These bikes are what their customers have asked them for and what the next generation of Bonneville should be – more beautiful, more powerful and more capable.

With all of the character and style of the iconic original, and the power, performance and capabilities modern riding demands, the new Bonneville family takes the legend into the 21st century.

American Muscle bikes brammo Cruising electric motorcycle Empulse Empulse TT Other Motorcycle Blogs standards Victory motorcycles

2016 Victory Empulse TT

It’s eerie to walk out onto the bleachers, watching racers pull triple-digit speeds in relative silence. Walking through the pits and not seeing oil stains and cans of gas strewn about. Sure, you still smell the burning rubber, but not the familiar aromas of gasoline and oil. The mechanics all have clean hands and for the most part are just looking at computer screens. This is the future we are heading towards, and Victory Motorcycles is taking us there.

Last month Victory brought myself and a group of other motorcycle journalists to the High Plains Raceway in Deer Trail, Co. A unique track that seemed to be made for Victory’s new race-bred electric motorcycle: the Empulse TT. This track is completely isolated, we drove for hours through the vast beautiful landscapes of Colorado before seeing several flags and towers sticking up in the distance indicating our arrival. It was the perfect place to unveil the electric bike: a completely silent track, beautifully designed, all to ourselves. I had seen images of the bike, but now it was sitting in front of me and I was chomping at the bit to get my turn at riding one.

The Victory Empulse TT was my first experience with a modern electric bike, and it was unlike anything I had ridden before. It wakes up with a flare on the meters in front of you, rather than roaring to life like an internal combustion engine, and doesn’t make any noise other than a faint hum until you turn the throttle. Holding down the starter button to turn it to Sport Mode (one of three riding modes, including normal and rain), I headed out to line up behind the other riders on the track. Our first couple of laps were slow, just pacing and getting used to the throttle response and feel of the bike. My first impressions were that it was very thin and had quite a low center of gravity, which was nice getting into the turns. After a couple of laps they let us open it up.

Going 104 mph with your chest tucked to the tank and hearing nothing but the wind on your helmet is an incredible feeling.

This is not the cruiser that we have grown to expect from Victory. This is their step into not only the electric market, but the sport/standard market as well. The massive Brembo dual-disc front brakes provide the shortest stopping distance in-class and adjustable front and rear suspension provide that race-tuned feel specific for your weight and riding style. Also, with the highest in-class lean angle, riders during our track day had no problem dragging a bit of knee. In fact, I took the thing out in my casual boots(dang it) and ground half the soles off from getting down in it. The Empulse TT only weighs 460 lbs and delivers a healthy 54 hp and 61 ft-lb torque, which it wears very well. A low center of gravity and improved steering dynamics make this a fun package that’s easy to throw into the corners at speed or just whip through the city streets.

This new bike is building off of the technology from the company Brammo, which Polaris acquired at the beginning of this year. They have increased the battery capacity by ten percent, and increased the range to 140 miles. Stylistically the bikes have very much in common, as the TT seems to be the next step after the Brammo Empulse R, under a different banner. But it’s the banner that makes the difference moving forward. Having Polaris and Victory backing this project means that we will continue to see a push towards faster electric bikes and higher performance with the funding of a major company behind it, which is important because this is an exotic beast.

It’s a full-blown little sport bike: unlike anything in the Victory line-up. But we shouldn’t be surprised, as Victory has been pushing performance and demonstrating it all over the world this last year. The bike that took Lee Johnston to podium at Isle of Man was built on the same platform, and when legendary racer Guy Martin took that bike for a spin he only had one thing to say through a massive grin: “It’s the future”. And it absolutely is. Whether or not the future has arrived with the Empulse TT, however, is up to you.

While the Empulse will surely be a universal object of desire, it’s not going to be a bike for everybody. With a price tag of $20k, it’s not marketed towards the average Joe, and Victory knows that. The customer for this bike is your Tony Stark type. The well off, established individual who has a couple other bikes and cars and wants to add something unique and economical to the collection. The bike that might be out of reach for most customers, goes to show that the technology we’ve been waiting for is within reach. And so it seems Victory is not pushing sales, they are pushing performance and they are pushing technology.

bikes Cruising Ducati Ducati Scrambler Icon offroad Other Motorcycle Blogs scrambler standards

2015 Ducati Scrambler

We’ve all been there. Roaring down the highway when up in the distance the light catches a break in the trees. There’s a trail. No barbed wire or fence blocking it off, just hard-packed dirt beckoning you to exercise your two-wheeled freedoms and for a moment you think “What if?” But why close yourself in? Why set boundaries on where you can and cannot go? The Ducati Scrambler breaks down those walls and begs for you to head for the hills. Take that turn. Hit that trail and lay into that berm. Get out and get dirty, trust me, you’ll have more fun.

Morgan’s Riding Impression:

The Scrambler is a different sort of bike. Built around a generation that wants to be able to go anywhere and do anything on a whim, this is a truly diverse beast. For starters: it’s damn nice to look at. Nobody could believe I was actually going to ride it on the dirt, but something about the bright yellow paint and brushed aluminum was just screaming for me to get it dirty.

The throttle response of the torque-rich 803cc engine will get your blood pumping as soon as you drop the clutch. Assuming that you let the bike warm up, that is, as I experienced a bit of hiccupping while throttling before the bike reached riding temp. But the handling, oh my yes, the handling. One of the only scramblers one can comfortably hope to drop a knee on, this bike loves the tight turns of canyons as much as it does jamming from light to light and whipping corners in the bustling city. If Ducati would add a steering dampener, I wouldn’t have a single thing to complain about. This is a motorcycle that anybody who loves riding will enjoy. It’s not going to eat up the miles on long trips, but it’ll make your daily commute a hell of a lot more exciting.

Jordan’s Riding Impression:

For the past few years I’ve been riding 1,000-pound baggers. Sorta comes with the territory when you’re the editor in chief of Baggers magazine. Riding the Scrambler Icon was a welcomed breath of fresh air–literally–since a windshield or fairing was nowhere in sight!

Upon first glance the dirt-track-inspired Scrambler is very easy on the eyes. I think Ducati’s choice of ‘62 Yellow for the Icon (also available in Ducati Red) was spot-on. The hue is the perfect accompaniment to the all black powertrain and chassis components with subtle hints of raw aluminum sprinkled in (fuel tank panels). And the Icon’s stance is just right: 18-inch front and 17-inch rear 10-spoke wheels wrapped in Italian rubber (Pirelli).

After throwing a leg over the Scrambler’s very scrambler-inspired seat, the ergos were very comfortable. The flat track bar wasn’t too short, nor too tall, but just right and the foot pegs were positioned well for my 5-feet-10-inch frame. After some more familiarizing, I started her up, hit the road and after about 2 seconds of riding I remembered that riding motorcycles was fun. Like exhilarating kinda fun. I felt alive! And living in the moment is a great place to dwell.

The Scrambler’s 803cc L-Twin is tucked tightly into the black powdercoated tubular-steel Trellis frame. And the air-cooled Twin’s power is very linear (throughout the rpm band), but definitely excels in the higher revs. Getting it to halt isn’t a huge task, either, thanks to the front single, semi-floating 330mm disc that’s halted by a radial-mount, four-piston caliper with standard ABS and the rear 1-piston caliper that binds a 245mm disc that binds finding the right gear isn’t the easiest after going from 100 mph to 20 mph since the gearbox is a tad clunky. After downshifting to what I thought was Second gear multiple times ended up still being Fourth, or Third…anything but Second. But upshifting wasn’t an issue, which is why it’s easy to get yourself into a bit of trouble (speeding!).

What I found rather enjoying testing the Scrambler’s inverted Kayaba 41 mm fork and Kayaba pre-load adjustable rear shock was through the long and bumpy sweeper from the 73 Toll Road onto Interstate 5 at triple-digit speeds. Both worked in unison to keep the Pirellis planted and tracking where they needed to be. I know Morgan had a serious off-road excursion, too, and he reported the bike soaking up small jumps like butter, too.

Overall, the Scrambler is a great motorcycle that scratches a lot of itches: it’s a fast, lightweight, multi-function bike that won’t break the bank at just under 9 grand. For my money, it doesn’t get much better for a light cruiser. Thanks, Ducati. I’m reminded that there are many different strokes for different folks, and if it’s a much-needed thrill seeking adventure riders are looking for out of a motorcycle…they can find it with the Scrambler.

H-D Street 750 vs Indian Scout

Reader Robert Engen provided this video to us via Facebook and we thought he did a good enough job describing his bike and his project that we would let him tell it in his own words.

A little bit about me and my Street 750. My name is Rob Engen, I’m 33 years old and I’ve been around Harley’s since I watched my dad build and wrench on them as a boy. My first bike was a Midnight Maxim 750 and throughout the years I’ve owned a 84′ v65 Magna, XS1100, Fatboy Lo and a Buell Blast. I first caught wind of the 750 back when the first product testing shots leaked out of India and from since that time, I’ve been bugging the local GM at Harley for one of these bikes. I was able to finally receive my bike in Feb of this year.

I originally wanted to build this bike up into a speed racer for the salt flats but as the time goes on, I think these bikes would be much more suited racing the 1/4 mile and road courses. So far, I have upgraded the suspension in the rear with a set of Progressive 970’s and I replaced the stock tree’s with a set of Free Spirits aluminum trees and rebuilt the forks w/ dampener valves to Free Spirits spec. I removed the stock bars and went with a set of clip-ons and to add to the more sporty feel of the bike, we also performed a 4′ tank lift to the bike.

The rear end of the bike has been chopped and is awaiting our custom rear fender and seat pan. Due to originality though and the belief that some of the Battle of the Kings builders have used our fender concept, we’re going back to the drawing board to re-create our idea into something a little more unique. I guess that’s the price you pay when you’re one of the first trying to customize these bikes.

This bike is a collaborative effort between myself and a few close friends who each bring their own set of skills and wisdom to this bike. We hope to find sponsorship so we can continue to refine on our ideas and be able to tour the bike around Western Canada so we can get as much riding time in for our riders.

Thanks again for showing interest in our project. I know a lot of the hardcore Harley crowd is passing these bikes over and we intend to open their eyes to the potential that these bikes provide.

Thanks a lot, Rob. We love to see people like you taking the initiative to go somewhere that people haven’t and push a new bike to it’s limits. Godspeed, my friend!
